This was developed following the Montgomery ruling. Visit ConsentPlus This patient educational website has been developed after we were awarded a grant from The Health Foundation, after national application. We have used a flip-class principle to educate patients about complications with arthroplasty. Once listed for surgery, they are asked to visit and log onto the website. They are able to watch the animated videos at their own pace, in their own home with relatives and friends, as many times as possible. They are asked to complete a pre an post video questionnaire and a certificate is issued at the end to confirm that they have watched and understood the risks and complications. When they then attend a consent clinic or a Pre-assessment clinic, they are in a better position to ask the appropriate questions. The surgical team can then consent them in a much well informed manner. We have presented our work at BOA and BHS, and have completed a review with The Health Foundation. This is undertaken on a rotating manner in the various hospitals. This meetings is a forum for all the Knee Consultants in South Wales to discuss patients with complex and difficult knee problems. Patients are brought along to the meeting and their problems are discussed. This helps the patients and the treating surgeons to get a consensus on which is the best treatment for the patient.
